Vikings lose two straight

CAMROSE, AB - Hitting the ice for a Friday night showdown, the Augustana Vikings fall to the visiting SAIT Trojans 5-3 at Encana Arena.

With the loss, the Vikings are now 0-2 to start the season, while the Trojans remain perfect on the season going 2-0.

The Trojans found success from Ethan Schmunk who scored a hat trick on the night, while Chase Felgueiras and Rock Ruschkowski each added one to the tally. Across the ice, Cam Shorrock and Jack Hamly both found the back of the net in the loss.

Vikings goaltender Daniel Moody made 24 saves on 28 shots, while fellow netminder, Braedon Fleming was solid, saving 20 of 23 shots.

Seemingly scoreless in the first period as time ticked away, Schmuck was able to break the goose egg to put the Trojans up by one. However, not to be outdone,  the home side evened the scoring with 5:03 remaining on the clock to end the period tied at one apiece.

With a flurry of goals, SAIT took control in the second frame, outscoring the Vikings 2-1 in the period. The Trojans claimed their first lead of the game midway through the period after Felgueiras successful shot from the high slot beat Moody to take the lead from the home side, 3-2.

The Trojans didn't stop, adding two more goals before the end of the game, forcing the Vikings to pull Moody from the extra man. With the net empty, Schmuck was able to slide one in for the hat trick and officially sealed the deal, as the Trojans took the 5-3 win on the road.

Looking ahead the Vikings will make the trip to Portage College to take on the Voyagers, who are also winless on the season, at 7:00 PM MT. The Trojans will remain on the road next weekend as they head to Red Deer to take on the RDP Kings at 7:00 PM MT. Catch all the action live on ACACTV.
