CAMROSE, AB - Ending their 2021 portion of their season campaign, the University of Alberta, Augustana Vikings took on the Concordia Thunder in a physical affair, losing 2-1 to their visitors, Sunday night at Encana Arena.

The Vikings rookie Gerrik Ripley netted his team's lone goal, while Cam Shorrock had the assist. Making 36 saves in the crease was goaltender Daniel Moody in the loss.

Across the Ice, the Thunder's rookies led the way as Alex Marrocco and Hunter Leslie each had a goal, while Griffin Bowerman made 30 saves on the night for the win.

With the win, the Thunder remains undefeated (3-0-0-1) this season and are tied for second place in the league with the SAIT Trojans, both with seven points. Meanwhile, the Vikings (1-4-0-0) remain in fifth place, just one point ahead of the sixth-place Briercrest.

Getting first blood and opening the scoring just 3 minutes into the game, was Ripley who was able to jump on the rebound to slide the puck into a wide-open net to give the Viking the lead. Minutes later, the Thunder struck back as Marrocco's wrister beat Moody to tie the game at one apiece.

After a goalless second period, Leslie found the go-ahead goal on the powerplay as Scott Allan made a solo effort to get into the offensive zone, drawing two defenders in before making the tape-to-tape pass in front for an easy tap-in.

Looking ahead, both teams will have to wait until the New Year to hit the ice once again when they meet at Concordia on January 14th. Catch all the action on ACACTV!
