Vikings Hockey set to drop the puck on Friday night at home

The Vikings Men's Hockey team will look to get off to a hot start after 614 days away from ACAC regular season and playoff competition.

The first puck drop will take place at the Encana Arena in Camrose as the Vikings host the Concordia University of Edmonton Thunder at 7:30 PM MT.

The Thunder and Vikings met twice in pre-season action with the Vikings claiming a 6-5 overtime win on October 23rd before dropping an 8-1 loss on October 29th.

This weekend will mark the first regular-season game with Head Coach Tim Green behind the bench after being hired in May 2021.

You can catch all Vikings regular-season action on ACAC TV by attending a Vikings Hockey game in person (Ticket Info).

Looking Back

During the 2019-20 season, the Vikings fell to the SAIT Trojans, who had finished fourth in regular-season standings, in the first round of playoffs two games to one.

The Vikings had a solid season remaining a contender game after game but ultimately finished fifth in regular-season standings with 29 points, two points back of fourth-place SAIT. The Vikings will be hoping to improve on their previous 14-13-1 record this season.

Players to Watch

Returning to the Vikings for another year is forward Jarod Hovde, who in 2019-20 had eight goals and four assists. As much as Hovde will be looked at to produce on the score sheet, the Vikings will also be looking at him to lend his experience to the younger players coming into the ACAC.

Alongside Hovde is sophomore Quintin Sudom, who may still be in the early days for his eligibility, but the young defenceman made an impact in his rookie year scoring five goals while adding 5 assists.

Entering his first year in the ACAC, goaltender Daniel Moody will be hoping to make an early impact for the Vikings. The young Blackville, New Brunswick native played his junior career in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) before returning to Atlantic Canada where he played for the Miramichi Timberwolves of the Maritime Junior Hockey League posting a .877 save percentage in 20 games played.
