Wolves split home-and-home series on the road against Vikings

CAMROSE, AB - In a late Sunday night match-up, the Grande Prairie Regional College Wolves and Augustana Vikings met for the second time in their opening weekend home-and-home series, with the Vikings/Wolves proving to be victorious 3-1 (25-18, 25-19, 18-25, 25-20) at Augustana Gym.

The win splits the two-game series at one game apiece since the Vikings won on the road 3-0 on Friday night to open the season. Both teams now sit with a record of 1-1.

Exchanging points, the first set started as a battle for possession, with the Wolves settling into the match first to take the first set 25-18.

The second proved to be the same, with neither team able to string together a long rally, it was the Wolves who managed to make fewer mistakes to go up two sets to none.

On the brink of losing, the Vikings were forced to rally together in the fight to remain alive. Successfully doing so, the Vikings forced a fourth set.

With the Wolves one set away from splitting the weekend series, they regrouped after the third and proved to be the better team on the night to take the fourth and final set 25-20 on their way to victory.

Next weekend the Vikings will head to Edmonton to take on the NAIT Ooks on Friday night at 6:00 PM MT before returning home on Saturday night for the second match-up of the home-and-home series. Meanwhile, the Wolves will spend next weekend in Edmonton taking on the Concordia Thunder on Friday night at 6:00 PM MT and Saturday afternoon at 1:00 PM MT. Catch all the action live on ACACTV.
