Vikings fall to impressive Ooks

CAMROSE, AB - In a Saturday night showdown, the NAIT Ooks defeated the Augustana Vikings 3-1 (25-20, 25-22, 16-25, 25-14) at Augustana Gym.

After having to wait an extra week to get their season underway, the Ooks are now off to a hot start having won two straight games over the Vikings for a 2-0 record. The Vikings, however, now sit in last place in the north division after losing three straight (1-3).

Giving little room to the home side, the Ooks maintained control through a majority of the set, but the Vikings were able to fight, tying the game at 11, However, the Ooks regained control once again. Unable to recover again, the Vikings lost the opening set 25-20 after a successful NAIT block.

The second set didn't look much better for the home side, as they trailed through the entire set. With the score 23-19, both sides put together a long rally before a big kill was unable to be controlled by the Ooks and the ball was sent out of bounds. Hoping that the rally would swing momentum, the Vikings were not able to string together enough points, as Carter Hills sent a huge cross-court kill to seal the set, 25-22, and take a 2-0 lead.

Looking to stay alive, the Viking's impressive third set start gave them a 7-1 lead. Unable to recover from the hole, the Ooks dropped their first set of the series, 25-16.

Not to be outdone the Ooks Battled back in the fourth set, with Hills once again coming up big with a cross-court kill to end the set, 25-14, and the game 3-1.

Next weekend the Ooks will take on the Concordia Thunder in a home-and-home series with both games first serve at 6:00 PM MT. Meanwhile, the Vikings will rest before hitting the court once again on December 4th at Lakeland Rustler at 6:00 PM MT, before returning home to host the GPRC Wolves on Sunday night at 6:00 PM MT.
