Vikings struggles continue into 2022

CAMROSE, AB - In their first game in the New Year, the Augustana Vikings Men's Volleyball team fell to The King's University Eagles 3-0 (25-22, 25-20, 25-21) Friday night at Augustana Gym.

With the win, the Eagles improve to 6-1 on the season and claim the top spot in the north division standings. The Vikings slip to 2-5 and sit just two points ahead of the last place Concordia Thunder (1-7).

Leading the Eagles to victory was third-year outside hitter Jayden Hibert with 10 kills and three digs. Meanwhile, rookie setter Mason Gorski had 29 assists and two digs.

Across the court, third-year outside hitter Evan Richard had eight kills, four digs, and one ace. Fellow third-year Ben Linsley had 25 assists and two digs.

Coming about to the gate guests took control early, but couldn't shake the Vikings. However, their slight edge remained to take the first set 25-22 in their most successful offensive set of the night with 15 kills and only a single error.

The Eagles kept pushing and took advantage of the increase in errors from the Viking's side, with the host having seven errors in the second set compared to just two in the first, helping put the visitors up two sets with a 25-20 win.

The third and final set would prove to be much of the same, with the Eagles claiming both the set and match win, 25-21.

The Vikings will not have to wait long for a rematch as they travel to Edmonton tomorrow night to take on the Eagles once again with the first serve set for 6:00 PM. Catch all the action on ACACTV.
