CAMROSE, AB - Bring the rodeo to town, the Olds Broncos took a 2-0 victory over their host the University of Alberta - Augustana Vikings, Saturday afternoon at Augustana Field.
The win allows the Broncos to leapfrog the Vikings in the south division, claiming fourth place based on goals against, while the Vikings slide into fifth as they come down the final stretch of the season with two games remaining for both teams and only three playoff spots in the south. Both the Vikings and the Broncos sit one point back of the RDP Queens for third.
Scoring what would result in the game-winner was Jayna Espie-Sanderson late in the game, catching her hosts on their back foot to slot one in the net in the 82nd minute. Extra time would allow for one last opportunity for the Broncos with Tiona Paton getting the insurance.
Looking ahead, the Broncos will lace up the boots once more this weekend when they host the Queens and what could result in a playoff decision. Meanwhile, the Vikings will head south to take on the fifth-place Medicine Hat Rattlers on Sunday with kickoff scheduled for 2pm MT.
