Vikings Athletics Academic Breakfast 2023

Vikings Athletics Academic Breakfast 2023

Honouring a total of 59 student-athletes, Vikings Athletics hosted their second annual Vikings Athletics Academic Breakfast on Wednesday morning at the Augustana Dinning Hall to recognize the academic achievements from the 2022-23 season.

After the success of the inaugural celebration in the year prior, in which 45 student-athletes were recognized, the Vikings continued to show why they are regarded as one of the top academic institutions within the Canadian Colligate Athletics Association (CCAA) and the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) by increasing their academic achievements to 59 total.

In total 51 student-athletes across seven teams were named CCAA National Scholars, the largest number amongst ACAC institutions, while 58 received ACAC Academic Awards with one additional Nordic Sports student-athlete reaching First Class Standing. Both awards are earned based on First Class and Deans List Standing based on the University of Alberta - Augustana standards.

This year, 252 CCAA student-athletes across 72 member institutions achieved combined excellence in collegiate athletics and academics to earn the most prestigious student-athlete honour, epitomizing a commitment to academic success and athletic achievement, 10 of which were Vikings student-athletes for the third most in the CCAA. Tying a Viking high of 10 achieved during the 2022-23 season.

The Team GPA award was awarded to Vikings Women's Volleyball, while Tyler Weenick and Darby-Anne Swanson earned the Dr. Roger Epp Scholar Male and Female awards, respectively.
