Vikings Golf Team Captain, Michael Harrison will be the first ever Augustana Campus golfer to compete in the Canadian University/College Golf Championship in back-to-back years. The fourth Year Physical Education student, has been invited back to compete in the 72-hole championship from Tuesday, May 28 to Friday, May 31, 2019 at the Fire-Rock Golf Club in Komoka, Ontario. While the event is hosted by Fanshawe College, the tournament is organized by Golf Canada and is a counting event for World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR).

Harrison, a hometown Camrose product, is hoping to gain the important experience of competing on the national level, "I believe this will benefit me as I try to improve as a golfer going forward into my fifth year of ACAC and CCAA eligibility. More importantly, I hope to represent Augustana and the Camrose community as best I can", explained Harrison. Harrison finished in a tie for 11th in the 2018 Canadian University/College Championship in Chilliwack, BC, and is hoping to improve upon that result. "This tournament will be a good test for me because I will be competing against top players from the biggest Universities in Canada, which will require me to be at my very best to make the cut and contend for the championship." The 4-day event later this month will include a cut after the third round (54 holes). To make the cut as an individual, Harrison will have to either be in the top-10 individually after 54 holes of play or within 10 strokes of third place. Twenty University and College golf teams from across Canada will participate, with over 100 male golfers vying for the Championship.

Harrison was recently named Augustana's male Athlete of the Year for the second year in a row, at Augustana's Student Life Awards in April. He received the honor of ACAC Golfer of the Year for the 2018-19 season, based on his ACAC Individual Gold Medal finish at last season's Championship. He is a three-time CCAA All-Canadian.

To help make participation in this national event possible, Harrison is seeking philanthropic support. The cost to travel and compete, without coaching staff, is approximately $1,500 and with the golf program being self-funded, student athletes on the Vikings Golf Team are responsible for these costs.
