After two brilliant seasons with the Augustana Vikings, guard Mason Hunter (Ardrossan High) will be leaving the familiar surroundings of the ACAC for Canada West.  The MacEwan Griffins and their new head coach Mike Connolly has courted the high-scoring guard to be a key piece in the revamping of Griffins basketball.  Hunter was a 1st Team All-Conference selection for the Vikings in the regular season and was selected to the 1st Team All-Tournament team at the ACAC Championships as the Vikings enjoyed their best-ever finish in the playoffs.
Hunter leaves a squad that led the ACAC in total points, field goal percentage, and three-point percentage while ranking second in the conference in free-throw percentage, free-throws made, blocked shots and defensive rebounding.  "Mason made significant contributions to our team success, especially this season," says head coach Dave Drabiuk.  "One of the unique experiences of coaching in the ACAC is that while we are pursuing team success we are always aware that we are simultaneously creating opportunities for our players to be recruited to USport programs.  This [Hunter's offer] represents the best of both ACAC worlds – great team success and the chance for one of our players to realize his dream to play in USport."
