Vikings battle to sweep Eagles

CAMROSE, AB - Starting slowly in their home opener, the University of Alberta - Augustana Vikings defeat The King's University Eagles 74-65, Saturday night at Augustana Gym.

The win ties the Vikings for first in the north with the Keyano College Huskies, meanwhile, the Eagles remain winless near the bottom of the standings.

Standing out for the Vikings in victory was forward Nic Harder, who led both teams in points and rebounds with 28 and seven, respectfully. Across the court, Peter Nyande led his team with 14 points and six rebounds.

Falling behind early, the Vikings found themselves in a six-point hole after the opening frame, before closing the gap, but continuing to trail by one point at halftime.

The break was all the home side needed to take the momentum outscoring the Eagles 23-21 in the third and making the difference in the fourth, scoring 23 points compared to 15 for the 74-65 win.

Looking ahead, the Vikings will take on the NAIT Ooks in a home-and-home series, while the Eagles will have a bye weekend.
