Vikings lose three straight with loss to Kings

CAMROSE, AB - Dropping their third straight decision, the University of Alberta - Augustana Vikings lose 83-72 to the visiting Red Deer Polytechnic Kings, Friday night at Augustana Gym.

With the win, the Kings snap a four-game losing streak to start the season and claim their first win of the season and now sit in sixth place in the south. Meanwhile, the Vikings have now lost three games straight after opening the season with two wins resulting in them sitting in fourth in the north.

Ryan Degner led the home side with 17 points and three rebounds, while teammate Brett Marlow added 15 points, three assists and two rebounds. Across the court, José Mauro Barrozo Junior had 21 points, 10 rebounds and two assists in the win for the Kings.

Starting the game with energy from the home crowd, the Vikings Nic Harder opened the scoring with a layup, before both teams would exchange points through the first quarter, but it would be the Kings with the slight advantage heading into the second frame, 22-19.

The exchange of points would continue throughout the next ten minutes, with the Vikings closing the gap to win the second quarter, 18-15 and head into halftime even at 37.

The halftime break would prove to make the difference, as the Kings took advantage of the break to get a four-point lead with just one quarter left on the board.

Ten minutes was all the Kings needed to close it out as they put 27 points on the board in the final frame to take the game, 83-72.

Up next the Vikings will head south to take on Olds College tomorrow at 3 PM MST, while the Kings will have a break until November 11th when they take on The Kings University Eagles.
