Rustlers claim overtime victory against the Vikings

CAMROSE, AB - Needing extra time, the Lakeland College Rustlers get the better of the University of Alberta - Augustana Vikings in overtime, 74-71, Friday night at Augustana Gym.

The win ties the Rustlers and the Vikings with eight points in standings, good enough to share fourth place in the north.

Leading the way to victory was Noah Horobetz Simpson who drained 14 points on the night, while Shaquai Manswell gathered up 10 rebounds. Across the court, Nic Harder continued to lead his side in points per game, netting another 26, while collecting seven rebounds of his own.

It was all Vikings after tip-off, outsourcing their guests 21-14 in the first frame, but the Rustlers silenced the gym with a 24-9 effort in the second to end the half up by eight.

Continuing with the rhythm, the Rustlers outscored the Vikings 18-11 coming back from the break to lead 56-41 with just 10 minutes to play.

Looking to claim two points and give themselves the lone seat in standings, the Vikings came back in dramatic fashion, closing the 15-point gap to force overtime as Harder scored 15 of his 26 points in the fourth.

Not able to hold onto their fourth-quarter momentum, the Rustlers came out victorious, scoring 10 points compared to the Vikings' seven, as the home team last seconds effort from Cooper Nelson's three would not be successful.

Both teams will meet again tomorrow to close out the semester at Lakeland College.
