Vikings claim big win over Thunder

CAMROSE, AB - Making no question about it, the University of Alberta - Augustana Vikings took down the Concordia University of Edmonton Thunder 86-61, Friday night at Augustana Gym.

The win gives the Vikings their first win since November 19th when they beat the SAIT Trojans 101-93. The win also ties them in the north division standings for fourth place with the Thunder.

Leading the Vikings was second-year Brett Marlow with 18 points on the night, while teammate Ryan Degner put up 17. Across the court, Nyasha Mubayiwa had 13 points and five rebounds.

The opening frame saw long stretches of no minimal points being added to the board before the sixth minute had elapsed when Marlow's made jump shot broke open the game for the home side when they went on a 10-point streak before ending the frame up 19-6.

The Vikings continued to increase their lead through the next three quarters, with Marlow adding seven of his 18 points in the fourth quarter before the Vikings claimed an 85-61 win.

Both teams will meet again in Edmonton as the Thunder host the Vikings at 8pm MST. Catch all the action on ACAC TV.
