Vikings fall short of upset over Huskies

CAMROSE, AB - Falling just short of an upset, the University of Alberta - Augustana Vikings faced defeat in a 91-85 loss to Keyano College Huskies, Friday night at Augustana Gym.

The win keeps the Huskies' perfect season intact with a 15-0 record to sit comfortably in first place in the north and they are the only ones in the league who are yet to lose this season. Meanwhile, the Vikings slip to a 6-7 record and are 4-6 through their last 10 games to sit fourth in the north.

Leading both teams in points scored, Sean-Michael Clancey drained 35 points on the night, while teammate DJ Haynes added 16 of his own.

Across the court, Nic Harder challenged Clancey to be the game leader as he found 32 points of his own and added seven rebounds.

In a high-scoring affair, both teams battled neck and neck through the first 20 minutes with the visitors finding the upper hand heading into halftime up 47-42.

Winning their only frame of the night, the Vikings took the third quarter, 18-17 and put themselves only four points behind the league leaders with 10 minutes remaining.

Waking the giant in the fourth frame, Harder eased his way to 16 points in the fourth and final quarter, but it would not be enough to push the home side over the winning edge with the Huskies taking the game 91-85.

The two teams will battle it out again at Augustana Gym tomorrow with tip-off set for 3:00 pm. Catch all the action on ACAC TV.
