Two points make the difference as the Wolves advance to the ACAC Championship

CAMROSE, AB - In a nailbiting game, the Northwestern Polytechnic Wolves take down the University of Alberta - Augustana Vikings 76-74, Saturday night at Augustana Gym.

The win advances the Wolves to the 2023 ACAC Championship in Calgary, hosted by Ambrose University Lions. Meanwhile, the Vikings will see their season come to an end.

The Wolves saw three different players hit triple digits including Kujtim Ujkani with 21, Emmanuel Lioka with 20 and Christian Liwanag with 16 points on the night. Lioka also gathered 9 rebounds.

Across the court, the Vikings also had three players hit triple digits with Tyler Weenink getting 17, Ryan Degner managing 18 and Nic Harder dropping 21 points and getting 13 rebounds.

After an evenly matched opening frame that saw Lioka drop 12 points, the Wolves found their kick in the second quarter to bring their three-point lead to 11-point heading into halftime.

Needing to find momentum, the Vikings drew the game back within three with 10 minutes left to play. However, it was Ujkani who put up 12 points in the final quarter, while missed shots in the dying seconds from the home side ended the game.

The Wolves will head to the ACAC Championship from March 2-4, 2023, while the Vikings will take some rest and reset from the 2023-24 season.
