Athabasca College Hockey Challenge hosts Vikings

The Augustana Vikings were in Athabasca this past weekend for a pre-season tournament with some of the elite teams in the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference and USport Canada West, including the University of Alberta Golden Bears. The entire committee that organized the tournament were amazing hosts for the whole weekend. We cannot thank the Athabasca Minor Hockey Association, volunteers and organizers enough for a wonderful tournament.

The Vikings started the weekend off playing the U of A Golden Bears, the defending USport National Champions. It was a very tough game, and the Bears proved exactly why they were the best team in the country. However, the boys were able to bounce back in a big way defeating the two-time defending ACAC Champions, the MacEwan Griffins. The final score was 5-1, with goals coming from Lovsin, Young, Gunville, Sobchak and Danczak. Zach DeGraves had a solid game in net, allowing only the one goal on 25 shots.

After a few more pre-season games on the road, the Vikings invite you to their home opener in the Max McLean Arena on October 6 at 7:30 pm vs. the Concordia Thunder.
