Vikings win three straight with win over Voyageurs

CAMROSE, AB - Sweeping the weekend series, the University of Alberta - Augustana Vikings takedown the Portage College Voyageurs 4-3, Friday night at Encana Arena.

With the win, the Vikings not only win their third straight game but jump to the top of the standings, tied with the Red Deer Polytechnic Kings. Meanwhile, the Voyageurs continue to struggle out of the gate, losing four straight and remaining at the bottom of the standings.

The Vikings found goals from four different players, Jaxon Georget, Cam Shorrock, Jordan Mish and Tavis Roch. Across the ice, Brayden Dale, Ty Budal and Gavin Mottey all found the back of the net in the team's loss.

Heading into the second frame tied at one, the Vikings scored the go-ahead goal just 55 seconds in thanks to Mish. Later they would add some insurance from Roch. However, they would head into the final 20 minutes with the dreaded two-goal lead.

30 seconds after the opening puck drop in the third, the visitors found themselves within one goal as they hunted for their first win. However, it would not be enough as rookie Georget would add the game-winner.

Looking ahead, the Vikings will hit the road and take on Briercreat College across the provincial border in a two-game series, while the Voyagers will face the Kings in a home-and-home match-up.
