Two unanswered goals give the Thunder the win

CAMROSE, AB - In a close battle, the University of Alberta - Augustana Vikings fall short to Concordia University of Edmonton Thunder 3-2, Friday night at Encana Arena.

With the loss, the Vikings slide down behind the Thunder in ACAC standings with just a single point making the difference once again through the team's first 10 games.

Getting the game-winner, Hunter Leslie joined other goal scorers on his team's side of the scoreboard, including Xavier Parenteau and Lukas Konashuk, who also added an assist on the night. Netminder Eric Ward backstopped his side to the win with 30 saves on the night.

Across the ice, the Vikings found an opening goal from Jaxon Georget, before Gerrik Ripley added a second tally before the end of the opening frame. Jake Gudjonson and Conrad Phillips each had an assist, while Rett Rook had 25 stops in the loss.

Less than five minutes after opening puck drop, Georget shot gave the home side their first lead of the night. However, it would not last long as Konashuk answered right back for the yellow and blue, tying the game two minutes later.

Ripley's unassisted goal would put the Vikings up by one after one.

The second period started off with a bang with players in the box to lead into a physical period of play. With 1:06 left on the clock, Parenteau goal evened play at two with 20 minutes of play remaining.

Leslies goal was all that was needed in the third to secure a win for the Thunder, as their two unanswered goals gave them a 3-2 win.

Next up, both teams will meet again Saturday night in Edmonton with puck drop set for 7:00 PM MT. Catch all the action on ACAC TV.
