Vikings sweep Ooks to end semester

CAMROSE, AB - Sweeping the weekend series, the University of Alberta - Augustana defeat the NAIT Ooks 5-2, Saturday night at Encana Arena.

With the win, the Vikings hop over the Ooks in standings to take third place at the midway point of the season and have a one-point advantage over their opponents. The win also puts them just two points behind the SAIT Trojans for second place.

The home side found goals from four different players on the night including Jack Hamly who netted two, Conrad Phillips, Jacob Biensch, and Tavis Toch. Daniel Moody had 21 saves in the win.

Across the ice, the Ooks had goals scored by Dylan Stewart and Keaton Holinaty. Ryley Osland made 34 saves in the loss.

The Vikings opened the scoring in front of their home crowd on Vikes for Tykes Toy Drive night, as Phillips found the back of the net nearing just six minutes in to give the home side a 1-0 lead after 20 minutes of play.

Goals galore would occur in the second as the home side struck first to give themselves the dreaded two-goal lead in hockey. Moments later Stewart would snap that lead in half with his goal, but the Vikings would drake again to create a cushion as Biensch shot would beat Osland.

Near the end of the second period, the Ooks would once again draw within one before the Vikings would recreate their two-goal lead just minutes later, heading into the third and final period with a 4-2 lead.

Adding insurance four minutes into the final frame, Roch's goals would be the final straw as the Vikings earned a 5-2 win.

Both teams will break for exams and the holidays before returning in the New Year when the Vikings take on the league's first-place team, Red Deer Polytechnic Kings on January 13th and the Ooks take on SAIT Trojans on January 7th.
