Kings stay on top

CAMROSE, AB - After five unanswered goals, the Red Deer Polytechnic Kings defeat the University of Alberta, Augustana Vikings 6-2, Friday night at Augustana Gym.

With the win, the Kings remain at the top of the league standings and create a two-point gap between the second-place SAIT Trojans. The Vikings meanwhile sit in fourth place.

Getting on the board for the win, Parker Gavlas lead his side with two goals, while Jake Wozney, Chance Longjohn, Regan Doig, and Deegan Mofford all added tallies. Backstopping the win was Arik Weersink with 32 saves.

Across the ice, Jacob Biensch and Gerrick Ripley both had goals, while netminder Daniel Moody had 36 saves.

Opening the scoring just three minutes in, the Vikings were on the board with Biensch getting on the board with assists from Austin Kozluk and Cam Shorrock. However, just minutes later the Kings would tie it up with Wozney getting on the board to draw the game at one. Midway through the first, Ripley would get the lead back for the Vikings to lead 2-1 after one.

Breaking down the door for the visitors, Gavlas' first goal beat Moody above the pad after a cross-ice pass from Longjohn found its way through traffic to tie the game at two apiece and be the first of five unanswered goals for the Kings, leading them to the win.

Both teams will meet again on the ice in Red Deer with puck drop set for 6pm MST. Catch all the action on ACAC TV.
