Vikings split the weekend with Clippers

CAMROSE, AB - Bouncing back from a loss the night before, the University of Alberta - Augustana Vikings rebound with a 3-1 win over the Briercrest College Clippers, Saturday afternoon at Encana Arena.

The Viking's win puts an end to a four-game win streak for the Clippers and puts four points between the two teams in standings down the final stretch of games.

Owen Lamb netted two for the home side, while Kyle Ford's third-period goal made the difference. Daniel Moody had 22 saves in the win. Across the ice, the Clippers Colten Aikens had their lone goals, while keeper Kolter Polick had 34 saves.

After a scoreless first period, Lamb's tip in front of the net from an odd angled shot, put the Vikings up by one in the second period, but that single goal would only stand for a few moments as Aikens would tie the game at one apiece.

20 minutes to make a difference, Kyle Ford had the right shot to put the Vikings up by one with six minutes left to go and that would be all the Vikings would need as Lamb would add an empty netter for his second of the game.

Looking ahead, the Vikings will take a weekend break before taking on the SAIT Trojans the following weekend and the Clippers will be looking for success against the Red Deer Polytechnic Kings next weekend.
