Hometown hero scores game winner for Vikings win

CAMROSE, AB - Battling it out for a better seat in standings and needing overtime, the University of Alberta - Augustana Vikings defeated the SAIT Trojans 2-1, Saturday night at Encana Area.

The Vikings win ties the Vikings with the Briercrest Clippers for first in the ACAC, well the Trojans and NAIT Ooks are now tied for second place in standing with two weeks of play behind them

The Trojans found offence from Brady Stange, while keeper Andrew Maclean had 38 saves on the night.

Across the rink, the Vikings goal was scored by Jordan Mish, while hometown hero Conrad Philips scored the winner in extra time. Daniel Moody made 15 saves in the night's efforts.

Opening the scoring late in the first period, the Trojans Strange got on the board first with a wrist shot from Stange beating Moody, putting them up 1-0.

Peppering the Trojan's net-minder, the Viking's Mish finally got a low wrist shot past Maclean from the slot to tie things up at one in the second period.

With both teams looking for the go-ahead goal in extra time, Philips rush down the wing and shot in close dribbled past Maclean for the game-winner.

Next weekend, the Vikings will welcome the league-leading Briercrest Clippers to Encana Arena for a two-game series at home, while the Trojans will have to wait until November 3rd to take on the Portage Voyageurs in a two-game series on the road. Catch all the action on ACAC TV.
