Thunder overtime winner claims win over Vikings

CAMROSE, AB - Needing overtime to solve game one of a home-and-home series, the Concordia Thunder get the last goal past the University of Alberta - Augustana Vikings to win 4-3, Friday night at Encana Arena.

The win improves the Thunder's record to 1-3-1 on the season, giving them their first win of the season to sit in sixth place in the league standings. Meanwhile, the Vikings still pick up a valuable overtime point to place fourth in the standings.

Helping their team to the win was Isaac Leik with two goals, including the overtime game-winner, while teammates Rylan Nivon and Grayson Reid also added their names to the goals column. Ashton Billesberger had 36 saves in the win.

Across the ice, the Homeside found offence from Conrad Phillips, Jase Smalcel and Will McPhee. Daniel Moody has 30 saves.

Needing just one goal to make the difference, Leik's one-timer on the power play made its way past Moody to secure the road victory.

Both teams will meet again tomorrow night at 7 pm in Edmonton for game two of their weekend series.
