Ooks first period claims win over Vikings

CAMROSE, Alta. - Three goals in the first period made all the difference in the NAIT Ooks 3-2 win over the University of Alberta - Augustana Vikings, Friday night at Encana Arena.

The win further secures the Ooks first-place position in the league with 26 points, eight ahead of the SAIT Trojans, while the Vikings sit in fourth with 14 points.

Ethan Leyer, Keegan Tiringer and Ty Yoder all found the back of the net for the Ooks, while Ryley Osland was credited with the win, making 26 saves.

The Vikings on the other hand found goals from Brett Wieschorster and Tanner Manz. Daniel Moody had 15 saves on the night.

Needing nearly no time following the first puck drop of the game, Leyer lit the lamp just 26 seconds in to put the Ooks up 1-0. Wieschorster fought to get one back to tie the game eight minutes later, but the Ooks offence would need only 13 seconds to take back the lead and never lose it again.

Both teams will hit the ice again on Saturday night in game two of their home-and-homes series match-up at Ooks Arena.
