Vikings come up big in statement game

CAMROSE, Alta. - After coming up short in both games the previous weekend at the hand of the Red Deer Polytechnic Kings, The Augustana Vikings Men's Hockey team was able to bounce back with a 6-2 victory on Friday night. The Vikings played a full 60 minutes in what would be considered as one of their biggest wins of the season. The Sait Trojans came into the contest in a dog fight for first place in the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference, but a solid game from Augustana netminder Daniel Moody and six goals from the Vikings offense proved too much for the visiting men of Troy.

Augustana jumped out to an early two to nothing lead after the first period on goals from veteran forward Jack Hamly and hometown Conrad Philips. Thanks to another power play goal to begin the second period, the Vikings were able to run like a well oiled machine ending the second frame up five to zero. The Trojans managed power play opportunites of their own throughout the evening, however with Moody standing tall, Sait ended the night going zero for four on the man advantage.

The Trojans did get on the scoreboard in the third period on two goals from Dylan Clark while defenseman Lane Kirk added one more for the Vikings. The rematch goes tomorrow afternoon in Calgary with a puck drop set for 4:30 PM. Hockey fans can tune in to watch the game as always on ACACTV.
