Vikings win two must win games against the Concordia Thunder

CAMROSE, Alta. - With major playoff implications on the line the Augustana Vikings were fortunate to win both games of a home and home series with the Concordia Thunder this weekend. The Vikings skated to a 5-1 victory on Saturday night at the Encana Arena on Saturday night with three skaters recording multiple point nights.

The teams exchanged late goals in the first period to deadlock at 1-1 after the first period. The Vikings would take a two goal lead into the third period on goals from Gerrik Ripley and Jayven Leslie. Vikings rookie netminder Justin Bourque delivered his best showing in his young ACAC career making 28 saves on the night only allowing one goal. Across the rink, veteran Griffin Bowerman made 27 saves for the Thunder.

The Vikings would add two goals in the third period to solidify their victory and keep pace in the Alberta Colleges Athletics Conference men's hockey division playoff push. The Thunder will look to gain ground in the ACAC next weekend hosting the league leading Briercrest Clippers. The Vikings will enjoy a weekend off before a home and home series with the Nait Ooks, all action can be found on ACACTV.
