As a part of their 60th year of operations, the Alberta Colleges Athletics Association (ACAC), will be inducting the Vikings Men's Hockey team from 1974-75 into the ACAC Hall of Fame.

In 1974-75, the Vikings men's hockey team – made up of students from an institution with 390 people enrolled – won the 1975 Alberta Colleges Athletics Conference (ACAC) championship before going on to capture the first Canadian Colleges Athletic Association (CCAA) hockey championships in Sydney, Nova Scotia, hosted by the College of Cape Breton in 1975.

The win on the national stage proved to be the catalyst for future success for the institution and community, paving the way for the team to play a season in Europe, before the inaugural 1981 Viking Cup hockey tournament. The small, rural community of Camrose, Alberta hosted teams from across Canada, the United States and Europe for 25 years until its final medal ceremony in 2006. The prestigious tournament welcomed the likes of over 400 players who would hear their names read aloud at an NHL draft, including Dominik Hasek, Joe Pavelski, Paul Stastny, Miikka Kiprusoff, Patrik Elias, Mikko Koivu, Henrik Lundqvist, Henrik Zetterberg, and Tuukka Rask.

The success of hockey in Camrose can be attributed to the trailblazing team, who shocked Canadian hockey fans in 1975 inspiring a community and drawing international attention. The championship-winning team would feed the community's success for years to come, as it would be another 36 years before the Vikings returned to capture their second ACAC title in 2011.

In 2009, the 1974-75 Vikings were inducted into the Alberta Hockey Hall of Fame cementing their everlasting legacy.

As part of these celebrations, the team's induction into the ACAC Hall of Fame will take place on Friday, May 10, 2024, in Red Deer, AB. The Hall of Fame, established in 2014 during the ACAC's 50th season, was created to honour the outstanding contributions of builders, administrators, coaches, athletes, and now teams that have played a pivotal role in shaping the ACAC's history.
