Kings move on to Conference Finals, Vikings season comes to an end

CAMROSE, Alta. - The Red Deer Polytechnic Kings men's hockey program are off to the Alberta College Athletic Conference finals to defend their crown after a 6-2 victory over the U of A - Augustana Vikings on Saturday night. 

On Friday evening the Kings managed to win a close game 3-2 in Red Deer and kept the momentum going on Saturday scoring early to take a 1-0 lead within the first five minutes on a goal from Jaxon Steele. Kings captain Chance Longjohn scored for the Kings as well to take a 2-0 lead into the second period. Tanner Manz replied for the Vikings early in the second period but that was the closest the Vikings would stay throughout the night as the second period would end with a 4-2 lead for the Kings. 

The Kings would add two goals in the third period to seal the series and punch their ticket to the ACAC finals. Kings goaltender Arik Weersink was solid all evening making 26 saves on the night, Vikings goaltender Daniel Moody made 14 for the Vikings. The Kings will meet the Concordia Thunder in the ACAC finals starting next weekend with the Kings enjoying home ice advantage for the series.
