Men's Soccer Takes Part in Weekend Futsal Tournament

Over the weekend, the Augustana Vikings men's soccer team headed to Olds College to play in an indoor futsal tournament. The team unfortunately lost of their games, but coach Tom McManus was conent with the way his players played during the course of the three games.

The team played the SAIT Trojan's Red team to kick off the tournament on Feb. 17. The Vikings lost 4-2 and player Rami Ayache was given two yellow cards, which meant he missed the second game later that afternoon. The second game was against the Medicine Hat Rattlers, who McManus called a "very good team" and was proud of his team for keeping up for a majority of the game.

"We went behind by a goal but tied it up almost immediately," said coach McManus. "They scored two more to go into the halftime break down 3-1. We started the second half well, but made two mistakes, which they jumped on. Matthew Svederus scored to make 5-2 and they scored another goal in the dying seconds." The final score for the game was 6-2. Player Jaeden Norton also received two yellow cards during the course of the game and missed the third game against Kings College the next morning.

The Vikings faced off against the Eagles the next morning. According to McManus, the first half went well, but his players were exhausted by the second half. He was proud of his team's three goals, which weren't enough to offset the nine goals from the Eagles, for a final score of 9-3.
