Shutouts encourage MSOC Vikings in Pre-season

The Augustana men's soccer team played their first preseason game against Ambrose University on Friday, August 24. The game remained scoreless in the first half but a penalty kick from Jaeden Norton put the Vikings ahead in the second half. Shortly after, rookie Denis Swoboda scored an absolute stunner as he rifled the ball into the top right corner. David Lowe played an amazing first game with the team as a goal keeper, not allowing anything past him. Rookies' Ian Mcintosh and Adrian Caceres both had a strong presence on the field. The whole team fought hard for this well deserved win.

The Augustana men's soccer team played against Red Deer College on Saturday, August 25th. It was a very close game with both teams creating strong chances. Keeper David Lowe continued his shutout with another brilliant performance. The final score was zero all.

The following day, the Augustana men's team played Olds College. The first half of the game was scoreless. The Vikings scored early into the second half with a beautiful left footed, top-corner snipe from Johnny Johnson. Olds scored off a deflection from a free kick shortly after. The Vikings battled hard and retook the lead with a goal from Carson Penner. In the last minutes of the game Olds scored on a breakaway and the game resulted in a 2-2 draw.

The Red Deer pre-season tournament was a huge success for the men as they achieved two shutouts while also remaining undefeated. They have been training hard since August 13 with a large turnout of eager players. The team has gained a lot of confidence and with everyone putting in their best efforts from early on, the Vikings look forward to a very promising season.
