Wolves Sweep Vikings on the Road

CAMROSE, AB - Faced with more bad luck, the University of Alberta - Augustana Vikings met their match again as the Northwestern Polytechnic Wolves defeated them 3-1 (25-18, 21-25, 25-21, 25-22), Saturday afternoon at Augustana Gym.

With the win, the Wolves tied the Lakeland College Rustlers with 18 points for fourth place in the north with home-court advantage during the ACAC Championship play in game on the line with only one game left for the Wolves this season.

Meanwhile, the Vikings losing streak extends another game as they remain winless on the season with two games left.

Lane Matthews had an impressive 30 assists while teammate Thomas Wheeler had 10 kills for the Wolves in the win. Meanwhile, Boris Kuljanin had seven kills for the Vikings.

The Wolves took the early one set lead before the Vikings evened the score at one set a piece and headed into a possible momentum-deciding third set.

Falling behind early in the third, the home side battled back to tie the game at 17 before both teams exchanged points. However, the momentum would not shift enough in the Vikings' favour as they lost the set to trail, 2-1.

Working to stay alive, the Vikings pushed the Wolves hard, but it would not be enough as they secured a 25-22 set win and the game.

Next up, the Vikings will finish off the regular season next weekend with two games at home, on Friday they will take on the Lethbridge Collge Kodiaks at 8 pm before hosting Ambrose University Lions on Saturday night when they will honour their graduating players. The Wolves will end their season next Saturday at Red Deer Polytechnic Queens with game time starting at 3pm.
