Vikings fall just short in Saturday night battle to end the season

CAMROSE, AB - In their final match of the season, the University of Alberta - Augustana Vikings fall to the Ambrose University Lions 3-1 (25-18, 17-25, 25-20, 25-21), Saturday night at Augustana Gym.

With the win, the Lions snapped a six-game losing skid, meanwhile, the Vikings will see their season come to an end. The Lions will advance to playoffs sitting fifth in the south and will take on the fourth-placed Briercrest Clippers in a one-game ACAC Championship play-in game next week.

The night was also a time to honour the Vikings graduating player, Greg Keliel for the years he repped in the re, white and black.

In the first two opening sets, the two teams passed off who would be the first to carry the momentum to 25 points. However, pushing to get their first win on the season, the Vikings took to a hard back-and-forth battle in the third and fourth sets only to come up just points too short and drop the match 3-1.

The Lions will have another battle on their hand on Friday night when they challenge the Clippers for a spot in the ACAC Championship.
