Vikings search for their first win of the season continues with lost to Rattlers

CAMROSE, Alta. - Securing the win in straight sets, the Medicine Hat Rattlers took down the University of Alberta - Augustana Vikings 3-0 (25-21, 25-23, 25-16), Saturday night at Augustana Gym.

The loss keeps the Vikings in last place in the north, while the Rattler creates a two-point buffer between them and the SAIT Trojans for last place in the south.

Leading the way to the win was Jordan McKee with 17 kills as Keanen Hamilton added 23 assists. Meanwhile, Jonah Vander Leek led the Vikings with just five kills.

Not getting the attacks they needed in the first set, the Vikings recorded only 12 total attacks compared to 20 from the Rattlers, making the difference down the stretch for the Rattlers to take the set and the lead, 25-21.

Trying to push back, the home side kept up with their guests in attacks, but their errors would catch up with them along with tough defensive play from the black and yellow that could not be matched, falling into a 2-0 deficit before the Rattlers finished their hosts off with a 25-16 third set win and the match.

Looking ahead, the Rattlers will host the Olds Broncos in a two-game series next weekend, while the Vikings will hit the road for one game on Saturday at Lakeland College.
