Vikings split their opening season series with Eagles

CAMROSE, AB - One shot made the difference between the University of Alberta - Augustana Vikings and The King's University Eagles, with the Eagles claiming a 69-67 victory, Saturday night at Augustana Gym.

The win not only splits the opening season home-and-home series but also ties the Eagles and Vikings for third place in the north.

Leading the Eagles to victory was Aneilia Ayotte with 14 points on the night, while Ella Majeau not only drained the winner but also 11 points total, while also leading both teams with nine rebounds.

The home side found a point from Tayah Fiveland, leading the red, white and black for the second night in a row with 21 points, while Janessa Doctor added 15.

Getting off to a strong start the Eagles led 21-16 after the opening frame, but the Vikings fought back to lead by one point at the half. But it was the final basket that made all the difference in the game, as Majeau's shot from behind the arc was successful to jump ahead with 39 seconds remaining and Doctor's shot, the last for the Vikings just nine seconds later would not fall.

Looking ahead the Vikings will take on the reigning CCAA National Champions next weekend in a home-and-home series, while the Eagles will have a bye weekend filled with exhibition games.
