Vikings get back in the win column against Ooks

CAMROSE, AB - Defeating the reigning CCAA National Champions, the University of Alberta - Augustana Vikings took down the NAIT Ooks 73-57, Friday night at Augustana Gym.

With the win, the Vikings move into a tie with the Lakeland College Rustlers for second place in the north division with four points each. The Ooks however, continue to look for their first win of the season after securing the CCAA National Championship back in March and sit tied for last place.

Leading the team in points to victory was newcomer, Kamryn De Klerk with 17 points, six rebounds and four assists. While Mackenzie Mrazik had 11 points, seven rebounds and six assists.

Across the court, the Ooks lots of offence from starter Payton Neilson, who drained 18 points, while fellow starter, Kaytlyn Poberznick had eight rebounds.

Coming out of the first quarter tied at 19 apiece, the Vikings found the next gear in the second frame putting 23 points on the board, the most out of every quarter on the night. The serge allowed them to head into halftime with a seven-point lead.

However, the Ooks would not back down, holding the Vikings to just 11 points in the third and closing the gap to just four points.

The final frame proved to be the difference maker, the home side putting 20 points up and holding their opponents to single digits with just eight points, ultimately securing the 73-57 win.

Both teams will meet again tomorrow night at NAIT with tip-off at 8 PM MT.
