Vikings move up in standings with win over Huskies

CAMROSE, AB - Grabbing an important two points at home, the University of Alberta - Augustana Vikings take down the No. 10 CCAA ranked Keyano College Huskies 63-48, Friday night at Augustana Gym.

Not only do the Vikings take the win, but they also take second place in the north division standings over the Huskies. The win ties the two teams with 18 points, but with the Viking having only played 13 games so far compared to 15 for the Huskie, they claim possession. 

Having herself a season, Tayah Fiveland once again led the red, white and black with 15 points, while adding four rebounds. Teammate, Mackenzie Mrazik continued to dominate the board's battle with 8 rebounds on the night.

Across the court, the Huskies' lone double-digit point-getter, Zera Lynn Panesa drained 17 points to lead both sides, while Maja Besic had six points and seven rebounds.

Balancing the scores for the crowd, both teams took their time getting points on the board before exploding to end the opening frame with 35 points scored between them. However, it was the home side that led, 19-16.

Showing their dominance, the home side wasted no time creating their lead to head into the dressing room up 34-25.

Knowing they had a gap to close, the Huskies battled in the third, shooting from the field at 55%, but the Viking still held a 52-41 lead with just 10 minutes to play.

The final quarter was a defensive battle with the lowest quarter combined score. Not phased, the underdog Vikings took the 63-48 win,
