Vikings and Huskies split the weekend

CAMROSE, AB - drawing even on day two, the Keyano College Huskies took game two of the weekend series 75-63 over the University of Alberta - Augustana Vikings, Saturday afternoon at Augustana Gym.

After trading places the night before in standings with a Vikings win, the Huskies hop back over them to take back second place in the north. The Huskies are now 10-6 on the year, while the Vikings are 9-5.

The Huskies were led by their entire starting line-up who all reached double digits on the scoresheet, including 17 points from Kayla Lutterodt and 16 from Joy Victor.

Across the court, Lauren Cardnal and MacKenzie Mrazik each put up 12 points.

The opening frame proved to be a close match-up, but also included many missed opportunities, leading to the Huskies getting the better of the Vikings after 10  minutes of play to lead 19-16. They would double their lead at halftime, 35-29.

Coming out aggressive in the second half, Tayah Fiveland drew a foul to start, but the Huskies would keep the slight momentum to a 15-point lead at the midway point of the third quarter and would end it leading, 53-42.

With just 10 minutes on the clock to make a difference, the home side pushed back with Jenessa Doctor joining Cardinal with 8 points in the final frame, but it would not be enough as the Huskies claimed the 75-63 win.

Looking ahead, the Vikings will travel north to take on the Northwestern Polytechnic Wolves next weekend for a two-game series on the road, while the Huskies will receive a bye weekend before travelling to Briercrest College and Medicine Hat on February 10th and 11th.
