Lions over take Vikings for win

CAMROSE, AB - Over taking their hosts earlier in the game, the Ambrose Lions come out on top over the University of Alberta - Augustana Vikings 60-53, Friday night at Augustana Gym.

The win gives the Lions just their second victory of the season and improve their record to 2-4, good enough for fifth place in the south. Meanwhile, the Vikings season has got off to a rough start, as the 2023 ACAC Silver medalists fall to a 1-4 record and sit sixth in standings in the north.

In a display of brilliance, Andrijana Bokan led the Lions with a double-double of 14 points and 13 rebounds. Across the court, Larissa Stephenson led the home side with 19 points and two rebounds.

Plat started off relatively even between the two squads, with the Vikings and Lions warming up and hitting shots. However, missed chances in the second quarter would prove to haunt the Vikings, being outscored 13-7 and trailing 23-21 at halftime.

Seemingly evening out in the third quarter, Bokan would explode in the final frame with 10 points and six rebounds on the way to a Lions win.

Looking ahead, the Vikings will head on the road next weekend to take on the Lakeland Rustlers in one game on Friday, while the Lions will have a bye week before welcoming both the Keyano Kodiaks and Lakeland Rustlers the following weekend. Catch all the action on ACAC TV.
