Vikings sweep Wolves in weekend series

CAMROSE, Alta. - Holding the Wolves to nearly single digits in every quarter, the University of Alberta - Augustana Vikings took down the NWP Wolves 81-34, on Saturday afternoon at Augustana Gym.

The win not only marks a three-game win streak for the Vikings but moves them into the fifth and final playoff position in the north. Meanwhile, the Wolves remain in last place with a 1-9 record.

Standing out for the visitors on defence was Paige Snyder who had a game-leading 12 rebounds, 11 of which were defensive.

The Vikings had three standouts who drained double digits on the afternoon including Mackenzie Mrazik with 19, Tayah Fiveland with 15 and Larissa Stephenson with 12.

The Vikings took to the court with energy, leading 33-12 at halftime, before piling it on in the second half, keeping the Wolves to just 20 points in the opening 20 minutes of action.

Things opened up even more for the hosts as they put up 26 points in the final quarter, nine of which were from Mrazik to win 81-34.

The Wolves will have some time to regroup for the second half of the year as they head into the holiday break, meanwhile, the Vikings will lace up their shoes on Friday night as they host St. Mary's Lighting in their last matchup of the 2023 calendar year.
