Mrazik leads Vikings over Ooks for a crucial victory

CAMROSE, AB. - Coming back to home court Saturday night with redemption on their minds, the University of Alberta- Augustana Vikings, hosted NAIT OOKs at Augustana gym.

A rematch between the teams was as exciting as anticipated for both sides. The first quarter went back and forth but Vikings managed to gain a lead as the quarter ended 17-12. Keeping the momentum going in the second quarter, Vikings, Mackenzie Mrazik and Tayah Fiveland each drained 3 point shots. The first half ending with an electrifying play from the duo, as Fiveland assisted another 3 point bucket made by Mrazik, putting the Vikings up 35-27. 

Despite persistent efforts, OOKs offense was not able to break through the Vikings defense in the second half. Growing frustrated, the visiting bench earned a technical foul late in the third quarter as Vikings continued to control the game with a lead of 53-39. The fourth quarter saw both sides battling fiercely, NAIT earning the first bucket with a 3 point shot from #4 Mikah Reed. As the quarter unfolded, holding their ground and denying OOKs a chance to complete a weekend sweep, Vikings secured the victory with a score of 69-55.

Dominating the court, Augustana's Mackenzie Mrazik had a season high with 29 points and 9 rebounds and Tayah Fiveland added 14 points and 8 rebounds.

NAIT starter Mikah Reed contributed 13 points and 3 rebounds. Coming off the bench Jenna de Haan added 11 points and 2 rebounds.

With 7 games remaining in the season, Vikings are making their final push to secure a playoff spot in the north as they host The King's University Eagles Friday, January 26th at 6pm.  Meanwhile, OOKs are looking to hold their position in 4th and stay in playoff contention, they have a bye week then travel to The King's University, February 2nd.
