Augustana celebrates win over Olds Broncos

CAMROSE, Alta. - With a thrilling Senior night celebration atmosphere, The University of Alberta- Augustana Vikings kept the energy alive as they defeated the visiting Olds Broncos, 84-58, at Augustana gym Friday night. 

As both teams struggled to find the basket in the first few minutes of the game, it didn't take long for Vikings to find their groove. The Broncos stayed focused and didn't let up the pressure however, thanks to the versatile capabilities of the home team, they earned a decisive victory. 

With multiple standout performances, leading the team yet another week was Vikings #14 Mackenzie Mrazik with 23 points and 7 rebounds, a memorable senior night  for #4 Tayah Fiveland adding 12 points, 8 rebounds and 8 assists. Keeping the fans entertained and on their feet all night with many sensational plays, #22 Alyssa Banez added 10 points and 8 assists, and coming off the bench, earning player of the game #3 Mallory Ogilvie put up 16 points. The visiting team also had put up great numbers with #12 Meghan Swartz contributing 16 points and #4 Bree Hagen and #6 Caitlin Paul both putting up 12 points. 

Climbing the standings in the second half of the season, Vikings (8-10) sit in 4th place in the north, and will look to maintain their playoff spot as they travel to Red Deer Polytechnic (15-3), Saturday night at 6pm. Olds travels to Keyano College next Friday at 6pm.
