Jon Hironaka of M&M Food Market, Camrose presents Tara Berger with the Athlete of the Year Award

The Male and Female Athlete of the Year shall be awarded to the Outstanding Male and Female student-athletes of the year who first and foremost display outstanding athletic performance and accomplishments in the year of the nomination. Coaches in each sport nominate one athlete per team per gender based on criteria selection and 100 point scale system. There is a meeting to establish a short list based on criteria scores and this slate of nominees are moved to a final selection committee that ultimately selects the award winners. Our thanks to Dr. Rani Palo, Karen Bossman, Jessica Hagel and Ben Curry for their service on this year's Selection Committee.

Coaches Paul Stone & Gil Bridger had the following to say about Tara's contributions to Women's Soccer and Futsal, "Tara Berger has made a huge impact on the Vikings Women's Soccer over the last 3 seasons. The past 2 Futsal championships, Tara was voted as a First Team All Star. This past outdoor season, Tara played 9 of 10 games and scored 9 of the teams 15 goals. She finished 2nd in ACAC scoring in goals and total points, and was again voted by the opposition coaches as a first team all star. As team captain, she demanded the best from herself as well as her teammates and was always looking to improve on her game to make the team better. Tara has also maintained a 3.4 GPA while working towards her Kinesiology degree. She was a dedicated Viking Athlete and wore the uniform with pride at every game. Thanks for your dedication over the last 3 seasons. You leave behind a fantastic legacy and some great memories."
