Soccer Women tackle pre-season

Soccer Women tackle pre-season

FRIDAY AUG 24TH
Our womens Augustana team played hard against Sait in their first game on Friday. The 4-0 loss did not reflect the amazing effort displayed by the team especially while fielding only 9 players rather than the usual 11. The rookies Cari Kilmartin, Halle German, Kara Strange and Maddie James played exceptionally well in the Vikings colors.

SATURDAY AUG 25TH
Saturday morning the Womens team geared up to play RDC. Cari Kilmartin was a beast in the keeper position closing down many goal scoring opportunities for RDC. Once again the girls played hard with 10 players losing 5-0 in a well battled game. Aoife Botchey played an excellent first game as a Viking. Jessica Lalonde covered the entire left side of the pitch putting in a tremendous amount hustle offensively and defensively.

Sunday AUG 26th
The Augustana womens team played Olds College Friday morning in Red Deer. The girls battled well originally starting with 11 players before dropping down to 9. Despite the high pressure placed on Olds midfielders by Emily Mason and Kara Strange the Vikings still lost 4-0. Demi Vermeer and Kelsey Tollefson pressured the defensive line exceptionally well to slow the play and force turn overs.

Overall the weekend was a success with tremendous displays of sportsmanship and skill. The Vikings worked as a unit and discovered how to play as a team.  The Vikings are looking forward to a successful season.
