Meet Julie Ostrem: Vikings Women's Soccer

What position do you play? I usually play sweeper or defense.
How long have you played soccer? I have played soccer since age 5.
What are your personal goals as an athlete for this upcoming season? I hope to improve my technique and increase my overall fitness levels. I look forward to working on different skills as well as learning new drills and tips from the coach as well as the rest of the team.
What academic program are you taking and why? I am taking environmental science because I love spending time outdoors and believe it is necessary to preserve nature for future generations to enjoy.
Who is someone that inspired you to play? Definitely my mom. She has always played soccer and has been my soccer coach every year from age 5 to 16.

Ostrem is from Sherwood Park, Alberta and is in her first year with the Vikings, playing primarily as sweeper. She is entering her fourth year in a Bachelor of Science program, majoring in Environmental Sciences and hopes to continue her education mastering in Environmental Engineering. Julie chose to come to Augustana because of the long line of relatives who have graduated from Augustana before her. When Julie is not on the soccer field, you can find her at the gym, at the library, or couponing at the local superstore. Her favourite food is spinach or pizza pops. Her favourite quote is from Dr. Seuss's The Lorax, "Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better. It's not". Julie Ostrem is the daughter of Tom and Margaret Ostrem, and the sister of Mary, Steven and Donald Ostrem.
