Coach McManus reflects on the 2019 Soccer Season

Coach Tom McManus reflects on the 2019 Men's and Women's Soccer season, of which he was head coach for both teams. The season started mid-August with a few exhibition matches before official league play began September 7th.

"Both teams this year had excellent seasons" Coach McManus reflects. Though the Men's team were able to add some points after their back-to-back wins against Ambrose, the team still struggled all season long. McManus notes that "injuries were what hurt us the most all season long as we lost players at crucial times in the season"

The Women's team had "their best season ever", says McManus. This is made evident by their impressive performance all season, almost claiming a playoff spot to represent the South Division. Going into the final game of the season, they were in a must-win situation and needed Old's College Broncos to be SAIT. Unfortunately for the Vikings, that final game was against the top ranked Lethbridge College Kodiaks who had walked onto the pitch on a four-game-winning streak. Though the Women's team did not make a Championship appearance, two Vikings Rookies did – Sydnee Dallyn and Hannah Boyce were selected for the All Conference South Team. A well-deserved honor for two hard working Vikings.

Tom McManus joined the Augustana Vikings in February of 2016 as the Men's Soccer Head Coach. In 2018 he was added as head coach to the Women's Soccer roster. He is looking forward to next year when the teams will hit the field again and be proud to call themselves Vikings.
