Queens claim convincing win over Vikings

CAMROSE, AB - A dominating road win, put the Red Deer Polytechnic Queens in the win column with a 7-0 win over the University of Alberta - Augustana Vikings, Sunday afternoon at Augustana Feild.

With the win, both the Queens and the Vikings draw even with a 1-1 record after opening weekend.

Corbyn Fujimoto and Jenica Swartz lead the way with three goals each for the green, while Sofia Quinteros netted an additional goal.

The Queens opened the scoring as Grace Smith sent the ball into the box causing miscommunication on the defensive side allowing Fujimoto to get her side on the board with a tap in front past goalkeeper Kristi Bignell in the sixteenth minute.

Fujimoto was not done before the end of the first, finding herself alone high in the box and putting it away short side to go up 2-0 to end the first half.

Mustering up a majority of the scoring chance the Queens continued with the momentum into the second, as Quinteros scored just two minutes into the half and Swartz added her first of the match less than a minute later.

The goals would not stop there for the Queens, who added another three before the final whistle and claimed the convincing win.

Looking ahead, the Vikings will hit the road Friday night for a rematch against the Ambrose Lions at SAIT Feild at 5:00 PM, while the Queens will also take on the Lions on Saturday at 12:00 PM in Red Deer.
