Trojans take advantage in second half for 9-0 win

CAMROSE, AB - The SAIT Trojans were firing on all cylinders in a second-half surge that helped them overpower the University of Alberta - Augustana Vikings 9-0, on Sunday afternoon at Augustana Field.

The win starts the Trojans off with a perfect 2-0 season-opening weekend after a massive 15-0 win over the Ambrose Lions on Friday evening. They now sit atop the south division standings. Meanwhile, the Vikings fall to 1-1 on the season and sit fifth in the south. The top three teams in each division advance to the 2023 ACAC Championship.

Striker Isabel Vega let the scoring with four goals, while Amy Fallows, Meaghan Wiebe, Jordyn Morris, Nikki Charlton and Olivia DePasquale all added to the score sheet.

Vikings keeper, Sofia Ovcharenko made an impressive 19 saves on 28 shots in the match-up.

Holding the league powerhouses to just a two-goal differential at half, Charlton's 70th-minute tally created the momentum needed to open the fold gates for Vega to net four straight goals before Morris capped off the afternoon.

The Vikings will be looking to rebound on the road next weekend when they challenge the RDP Queens in Red Deer on Saturday, while the Trojans will take on the Olds Broncos before both teams flip opponents on Sunday.
