Vikings secure 1-0 win over Rattlers with late second half goal

CAMROSE, AB - Needing just one goal, the University of Alberta - Augustana Vikings took down the visiting Medicine Hat Rattlers 1-0 Saturday afternoon at Augustana Field.

With the win, the Vikings leapfrog the Rattlers in the south division standing to secure fourth place with nine points, while the Rattlers now sit tied for fifth with Old College Broncos. At the halfway point of the season, both teams will be vying for one of the top three spots in the division to qualify for the ACAC Championship.

Getting their name on the sheet, Ella Popiel scored the lone goal, assisted by Sydnee Dallyn who sprung the first-year forward into space for the game-winner in the 65th minute of the match. Keep Sofia Ovcharenko had 21 saves in the win, while Rattler Rylan Morhart made three saves.

Looking ahead, the Vikings will host the third-place RDP Queens on Sunday at noon on Augustana Field, while the Rattlers will return home to take on the Ambrose Lions tomorrow.
