Following a season with 147 saves through 11 games, Sofia Ovcharenko is named to the ACAC 2023 Women's Soccer All-Confernce team.

Hitting milestones for the Vikings, Sofia Ovcharenko has been named to the 2023 Alberta Colleges Athletics Conference (ACAC) Women's Soccer All-Conference team.

Ovcharenko joins the likes of just four other Vikings Women's Soccer players to be named to the All-Conference team since the inaugural season in 2014-15, including Tara Berger (2017), current teammate Sydnee Dallyn (2019) and former teammate Hanna Boyce (2019).

At the conclusion of the conference's regular season, Ovcharenko's stats made it difficult to call her anything but an All-Conference student-athlete with 147 saves for the most in the league, eight more than the next closest competitor Robyn Alexandruk from the NWP Wolves. She also was fourth in the ACAC with a .840 save percentage and 2.55 goals against average.

Not only did she make headlines around the league due to her play and being named ACAC Athlete of the Week on October 3rd following a weekend where she was seen making 39 saves, with only one goal against, going 1-1 over two games that weekend, Ovcharenko's name will go down in the Vikings Soccer history books for years to come.

With four wins this season, Ovcharenko ties the Vikings record for most wins in a season with former keeper Cassidy Newcombe in 2019. In addition, her 147 saves over the course of 11 games played set the record for most saves made in a season by a Vikings keeper, as well as the record for all-time career saves with 247, by a male or female Viking. Newcombe was the previous record holder with 200 career saves, making 93 in 2018.

Ovcharenko, along with other ACAC All-Conference student-athletes will receive their award at the upcoming 2023 ACAC Soccer Championship, hosted by the NAIT Ooks, Concordia Thunder and King's Eagles from October 26-18 at the Edmonton Soccer Dome.
